Investigating Partners with Gambling Habits
Do you suspect your partner is gambling away your life savings? Have you noticed some of the following hallmark signs of gambling;
Unexplained withdrawals of cash
Partners with gambling habits fund their addiction by withdrawing cash from their bank accounts in obvious and sometimes not-so-obvious ways. Often they simply withdraw cash from an ATM and cannot explain what the money was used for. When asked what the withdrawals are for they become argumentative or seem to forget what it was for. This is simply a diversion tactic which they hope will fool their partner (and often does).
Another way that a partner hides their cash withdrawals is by making a purchase at a store and withdrawing cash which may not show up on the bank statement. For example they may buy $5 worth of groceries and withdraw another $50 of cash and they think that this will not be uncovered. Unless their partner is some sort of accountant or auditor these cash withdrawals are never accounted for correctly.
Unanswered Phone-calls
When people gamble they often do not want to be discovered and so they turn their phone off. They don’t want their husband or wife to hear the signs of the poker machines in the background and so simply turn their phone off to avoid being caught and also to avoid the distraction from their addiction while they are within the walls of the gambling room. Unanswered phone-calls are another tell-tale sign of a gambler.
Loss of Time
An unexplained loss of time is also one of the indicators of a gambler and they will often make up plausible excuses for being late home after work or being uncontactable during the day such as blaming it on the traffic or that the boss had kept them back later than usual to finish some work. Over time these excuses wear off and the innocent partner starts suspecting something is up.
What to do now?
Gambling can destroy you financially and can lead to marital breakdowns because of the total breach of trust between partners. But if it is stopped before it takes hold then the partner with the gambling addiction can seek help and an intervention can take place which can heal the unsavoury situation.
Hiring a private investigator to follow the addict can reveal that they are gambling on poker machines in bars and clubs or even at the local betting establishments. With the evidence gathered you can confront your partner and expose the truth so that they can get the help they need or alternatively that you can move on now that your suspicions are confirmed, The cost of hiring a private investigator often is a small price to pay when compared to the catastrophic loss that gambling can cause.
